This weekend Kayla & Austin celebrated their wedding in style …again!

Wait, what?

You see, Kayla & Austin have been happily married for over a year! Their actual wedding day was March 21, 2020. The world was rapidly changing and adapting in the mere weeks leading up to their wedding. It seemed like every DAY the rules changed. They cut their guest list from over 100 to 50, then to 25, then to just 10 guests.

And you know what? These two made absolute lemonade of their wedding day and embraced the crazy. After all, their biggest priority was simply to be married. And last year we did just that. This year we expected to be celebrating these two with a full reception, but unfortunately it was still not safely in the cards. But just wait until you see how Kayla & Austin pivoted their plans yet again!

I’m so in awe of how these two continue to flex in the face of this new normal. If they can handle the curveballs life has thrown at them, they can handle anything life throws at them! (But I certainly hope this is the end of their troubles for many many years!)

—- ONE YEAR AGO —-

Kayla & Austin’s original wedding celebration was truly special, and truly a sign of the times. Their wedding day took place mere days after the nationwide shutdown, which meant they could only have 10 guests in attendance. The images captured at their ceremony really tell this story, from the empty seats to the Facebook Live (pre-Zoom!) broadcast. It’s also interesting to relive these early days of the pandemic when masks weren’t yet known to help stop the spread. Thank goodness none of us got infected!

One fun perk of a pandemic wedding? We basically had the entire city to ourselves! And we took full advantage of our chance to photograph in some iconic KC spaces crowd-free!

—- FAST FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND —-

Fast forward to April 3, 2021. The date that we all expected Kayla & Austin to finally get to have their wedding reception surrounded by their friends & family. Unfortunately the world was not yet ready for this celebration, so Kayla & Austin again pivoted their plans and made lemonade out of a new pile of lemons.

This weekend, Kayla & Austin donned their wedding clothes, gathered a new bouquet and boutonniere, and explored their favorite parts of the city with me in tow. Together we captured even MORE wedding portraits for these two and created new memories in some of their favorite date spots.
