When I look back on my wedding experience I can easily remember one very stressful experience: picking out the perfect outfits for our engagement photos! I had NO idea what would look good, what would pair well, or what would look timeless enough for me to love for years to come!
Even with the advent of Pinterest and Instagram (yes, I got married before those things were popular!) today’s couples still struggle with this same experience. But your engagement session should be fun and stress-free! It’s an opportunity to spend quality time celebrating this milestone in your relationship. And that’s why I’ve put together my favorite tips to help you look – and feel! – your most confident in front of the camera 🙂
Have you ever looked back on weddings images from decades past and thought, “Wow! That dress is dated!” or “I can’t believe they thought that was a good look!” More often than not, you can tell the age of an image from the clothing and styles of the people in the picture.
I want all the images we capture together to stand the test of time, and that starts with the clothes you wear in them! Many silhouettes, colors, and patterns are classics for a reason, and they won’t go out of style in a few seasons.
Why do we care about color as well as cut? Because we want to make sure your clothes don’t steal the show! You see, not all colors are created equally for the camera 🙂 Certain colors can make skin tones look washed out or they can pop distractingly, drawing the eye away from the purpose of the image. When choosing colors for your outfits, select lighter/pastel tones and more muted shades. By avoiding ultra-bright, bold colors, your images will better capture the connections and emotions shared in the images.
What are the most flattering colors for engagement sessions? Shades of softpink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white photograph best!
Here I’ve compiled 10 outfits that pair well together. These outfits follow my styling guidelines listed above and cover a variety of styles and personalities.
