I love capturing real, raw, radiant moments for the brightest of souls with the biggest of love. Learn more...
I know it’s a major holiday, and I’m breaking about 100 algorithm rules by posting this right now, but I just couldn’t wait to share these sneak peeks from Alyssa & Jack’s wedding day at White Iron Ridge!
Alyssa & Jack 100% lucked out with the most perfect day for their outdoor ceremony. The rain held off and the clouds provided just enough relief from the Kansas July heat. (Only in the midwest do we start describing a wedding day with its weather!) But that beautiful weather was the cherry on top to this perfect day. Alyssa & Jack’s minimalist vision was sooooooo beautiful and refreshing against the backdrop of White Iron Ridge’s stunning property.
Now when I say “minimalist” don’t mistake that for “basic” because this wedding day was anything but! Alyssa planned every last detail to perfection, from her feminine “something blue” shoes, to the delicate floral design, to the champagne tower (!), to the wedding party’s classic attire. Everything came together truly effortlessly!
The videographer Brit and I agreed that we could photograph (and film) Alyssa & Jack for hours. Their love is truly inspiring and their connection and joy is contagious. Alyssa & Jack’s first look, followed by the sharing of their private wedding vows, was such a special moment to witness and capture. These two have been lovebirds since high school and their love has navigated college, long distance, a pandemic, and so much more. Every time Alyssa looks at Jack, you can see the admiration in her eyes. And every time Jack looks at Alyssa, you can tell that he thinks he’s the luckiest man on the planet. And they’re both right. These two truly hit the jackpot finding their partners so early in life. Together they’ve built such a strong foundation for their marriage to stand on.
After a Alyssa & Jack’s first look, we captured their pre-ceremony portraits. Just as we were getting ready to move to a new location, big giant fat rain drops started falling. And yet, it was sunny outside? But Alyssa didn’t sweat it one bit. We took this as a sign to head inside for a cool-down break before capturing wedding party portraits. Thankfully the rain only lasted about 5 minutes, and Alyssa & Jack can now say that they got sprinkled with a little extra luck on their wedding day – not that they’ll need it!
After wedding party portraits (with one fun crew, I might add!) it was finally time for Alyssa & Jack to get married! This day was practically a decade in the making, and the moment was finally here! And after the ceremony, we took advantage of a small break in the clouds to capture sunset portraits before it got too dark. These are always some of my favorite portraits captured on any wedding day! By this time, the pressure is off, you’re married (!!) and you’re excited for the reception fun to come.
And boy did Alyssa & Jack have a fun reception! Right after their grand entrance they cut their adorable (and delicious!) cake then treated themselves to a champagne tower! Then they enjoyed a beautiful first dance together. After dinner, their friends & family shared in more dances and toasts before the dance floor was officially open for fun! They capped the night off with a private final dance (I love that this is becoming a must-have on wedding days!) before their sparkler exit.
Friends, I am just not over this day yet. I wish I could put into words how special it was for me to be a part of Alyssa & Jack’s wedding day. I feel so lucky that we connected so many months ago and that they entrusted me with capturing their once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
All day I found myself being filled with my own sentimental memories. You see, Alyssa & Jack are from Hutchinson, Kansas. That’s where my grandparents lived for decades, and it’s a place where I hold a lot of childhood memories. It was in Hutch that I learned how to drive a golf cart (I’m sure the Prairie Dunes greens have recovered by now), ride a bike, bake biscuits, and sleep under the stars. And my grandpa is the capstone to all of these memories. Throughout Alyssa & Jack’s wedding day, little reminders of these memories would pop into my head anytime a friend or guest mentioned something about Hutchinson. I wouldn’t say it was fate that this wedding happened so close to my grandpa’s death, but I would say that it created a thread of nostalgia and connection that I didn’t expect but loved getting to experience. So thank you, Alyssa & Jack, for bringing so much unexpected peace and joy to me on your own special day 🙂
